Separator Type & Performance
The removal of specific unwanted sand from apumped/pressurized water system shall beaccomplished with a centrifugal-action vortexseparator. Sand removal efficiency isprincipally predicated on the difference inspecific gravity between the sand and thewater. Performance is expected to be 98%removal of 74 microns and larger. Additionally,particles finer in size will also be removed,resulting in an appreciable aggregate removalof particles (up to 75%) as fine as 5 microns.
Performance Requirement
Separator performance must be supportedby published independent test results froma recognized and identified test agency.Standard test protocol of upstream injection,downstream capture and separator purgerecovery is allowed with 50-200 meshparticles to enable effective, repeatableresults. Single-pass test performance mustnot be less than 95% removal. Model testedmust be of the same flow-design series asspecified unit.
Separator Design & Function
A tangential inlet and mutually tangentialinternal accelerating slots shall be employedto promote the proper velocity necessary forthe removal of the separable sand. Theinternal accelerating slots shall be spiral-cut(Swirlex) for optimum flow transfer, laminaraction and particle influence into theseparation barrel. The separator s internalvortex shall allow this process to occurwithout wear to the accelerating slots.
Separated particle matter shall spiraldownward along the perimeter of the innerseparation barrel, in a manner which does notpromote wear of the separation barrel, andinto the solids collection chamber, locatedbelow the vortex deflector plate.
To ensure maximum particle removalcharacteristics, the separator shallincorporate a vortex-induced pressure reliefline (Vortube), drawing specific pressureand water from the separator s sandcollection chamber via the outlet flow svortex/venturi effect, thereby efficientlyencouraging sand into the collection chamberwithout requiring a continuous underflow orexcessive system water loss.System water shall exit the separator by followingthe center vortex in the separation barrel andspiral upward to the separator outlet.
