ARSENIC REMOVAL BY ION EXCHANGE - Arsenic can exist as AsIII and as As V in water. It is best to assume that both forms are present when considering treatment options. AsV can be removed by a variety of water treatment technologies one of which is Ion Exchange. We discussed this in detail in PURONEWS - Volume 2 Issue 1 - January 2002. It is important to convert AsIII to As V before treating. One of the benefits of Ion Exchange is that the resin is regenerable and can be reused over and over. PUROLITE ARSENEX and ARSENEX-S is the Ion Exchange technology to use. My Tip is to be sure to convert AsIII to AsV by oxidizing with Chlorine, Peroxide, Ozone, Manganese Greensand, Pyrolox or Potassium Permanganate. The benefit of using Manganese Greensand as the oxidizer is that it will also remove some of the Arsenic in that process.
